The European Commission organized on November 8, 2017, the FIRST WIDENING DAY in Brussels, Belgium. Scope of this event was to bring together all coordinators of the three widening actions ERA CHAIRS (FP7 and Horizon 2020), TWINNING and TEAMING (phase 2) and to create a WIDENING COMMUNITY, in order to exchange best practices, experiences and create new links for future synergies.

With great success were realized the Young Researchers’ and Trainers’ seminars that took place during the 17th International Conference on Reliability and Statistics in Transportation and Communication (RelStat’17), in Riga, Latvia.

An ALLIANCE research team consisting of doctoral students and researchers from Fraunhofer IFF (Germany), TTI (Latvia) and University Grenoble Alpes (France) participated with a presentation and publication entitled “A Simulation Tool to Assess the Integration of Cargo Bikes into an Urban Distribution System” in “The 14th International Multidisciplinary Modelling & Simulation Multiconference (I3M2017)”. The conference took place on September 18-20, 2017 in Barcelona, Spain. The presentation was placed in the section “Simulation for Energy, Sustainable Development & Environment” and was honored with the “Best Paper Award 2017”.

On October 6, 2017, representatives of the ALLIANCE project, Prof. Irina Yatskiv and Dr.sc.ing Mihails Savrasovs participated in a workshop regarding WIDENING activities organized by the State Education Development Agency of Latvia, which is the national contact point of the HORIZON2020 program.

We are happy to announce that CSUM2018 is finalising an agreement with a publisher for publishing an indexed special issue entitled “Paving the way to sustainable urban mobility“. Top-rated conference papers that focus on the wider area of sustainable urban mobility will be considered for publication in this special issue.

ALLIANCE project’s representatives Assoc. Prof. Eftihia Nathanail, Dr. Giannis Adamos (Dissemination Managers) and Mr. Ioannis Karakikes participated in the CIVITAS Deployment Day of the CIVITAS Annual Conference 2017, on September 28, 2017 which took place in Torres Vedras, Portugal. The CIVITAS Deployment Day was a new innovative addition to the CIVITAS Annual Conference 2017, aiming at connecting developers of new tools, methods, and approaches with potential interested entities and users. Within the Deployment Day, various interactive formats, including individualized training workshops and demonstrations were also realized (Click here for more information about the CIVITAS Deployment Day).
