Abstract

This paper describes the case study of applying smart technologies to make the added value in the Baltic transit to the Russian Federation. The research and approbation have been done as the answer to the challenges caused by changes in the regulation of the Russian Federation regarding to alcohol import. The new regulation points out that alcohol products are to be traceable with detail level up to the bottle. The paper demonstrates an adequate technology selection, system establishment and system performance evaluation based on statistical analysis. RFID and barcoding with optical recognition were selected as feasible technical solutions. The number of RFID technology limitations were identified during testing and barcoding with optical recognition was selected as a final solution. After system implementation, it was proved by the means of statistical analysis, that introduced technology and workflow did not rise significantly products processing time.
